This page provides a condensed overview of key preparation and recovery guidelines for mole and skin tag removal. For complete details—including wound care instructions, medication guidelines, and recovery timelines—please download the full Pre-Operative and Post-Operative instruction documents below.

What to Expect

Mole and skin tag removal is performed under local anesthesia, which numbs the treatment area while you remain fully awake and comfortable. Recovery is generally quick, with most patients returning to normal activities within 1–2 days. Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at the site is common and typically resolves in a few days.

Key Pre-Operative Guidelines (Summary)

Fasting: No fasting is required; you may eat and drink as usual.

Transportation: You may drive yourself home after the procedure.

Medications: Avoid aspirin, NSAIDs, and blood-thinning supplements (fish oil, vitamin E, ginkgo, garlic, etc.) for at least 1 week unless otherwise instructed.

Day of Procedure:

  • Remove jewelry near the treatment area.
  • Do not wear makeup or skincare products on the site.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing for easy access to the area.

Key Post-Operative Guidelines (Summary)

Site Care: Keep the treated area clean and dry. Wash gently with mild soap and water; pat dry.

Activity: Avoid strenuous activity on the day of your procedure. Normal daily activities may resume the following day.

Medications:

  • Tylenol (acetaminophen) may be used for pain.
  • Avoid NSAIDs for the first 24 hours if minor bleeding occurs.

Bathing: Showering is permitted the same day or next, but avoid soaking the area until fully healed.

Incision/Scar Care: Apply sunscreen (SPF 30+) to the treated site once healed to minimize scarring and discoloration.

Recovery Expectations

Redness & Swelling: Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness is expected and should subside within a few days.

Bruising: Rare, but if present, it usually resolves quickly.

Scarring: Most removals heal with minimal scarring. Protect the area from sun exposure to support optimal healing.

Emotional Recovery: Even for small procedures, it’s normal to feel self-conscious while healing. These feelings usually improve as the site recovers.
