Kybella is the first FDA-approved injection to target fat below the chin. The injection uses deoxycholic acid to target the fat cells in this area. Deoxycholic is a bile acid naturally found within our bodies and is used to help absorb fat. Kybella uses a synthetic form of this acid to help get rid of fat cells beneath the chin. Because this is an injectable treatment, there are no incisions required, and the recovery is quick and easy.

Kybella has been FDA-approved since 2015 and is a safe procedure when performed by a licensed medical provider. Because the acid in the injection targets cells, it is crucial that only a qualified specialist injects it. After your procedure, you may experience some minor side effects, but most subside in one to two weeks. Is there a recovery period?

After your treatment, you may feel sore in the area and see some swelling and bruising. These are common side effects and nothing to be concerned with. You can immediately resume your regular activities and can use an ice pack as needed to help with swelling.

Ideal candidates are patients with fat beneath the chin that are over the age of 18. You should be in good health and no longer breastfeeding or pregnant. During your consultation, it will be determined if you are a good candidate for Kybella and will benefit from the treatment.
