Keep in mind that each patient is unique and your results may vary.

What are the benefits of a brow lift?

A brow lift, also called a forehead lift, can help patients enhance their appearances by providing one or more of the following benefits:

  • Raising heavy brows to a more youthful position
  • Reducing upper eyelid hooding to rejuvenate the eye area
  • Smoothing out horizontal forehead creases and vertical lines between the eyebrows

Patients often request eyelid surgery to reduce the heavy appearance of the upper eyelids. For many people, this heaviness has more to do with the drooping of the brow than an actual excess of upper eyelid skin. Dr. Ching can help you determine which option would best serve you.

Am I a good candidate for a brow lift?

A good candidate for a brow lift has a mild to moderate degree of drooping of the brows. Ideally, the patient will need a lift of only the lateral, or outer half, of the brow region. Often the muscles responsible for frown lines between the eyebrows (called corrugator muscles) are removed during the surgery to permanently smooth out these lines. BOTOX® Cosmetic injections are a temporary fix for these frown lines.

What’s the difference between an endoscopic brow lift and a traditional brow lift?

A traditional brow lift involves removing a strip of the scalp through a long coronal incision that spans from ear to ear across the top of the head. This invasive technique involves a lengthy recovery period and leaves a scar that is noticeable with certain hairstyles. An endoscopic brow lift is an advanced technique that requires specialized training and tools.

Dr. Ching prefers this modern technique because it uses only tiny incisions hidden in the hair-bearing part of the scalp. The major benefits of the endoscopic brow lift include:

  • Shorter scars
  • Quick recovery
  • Minimal pain

How is an endoscopic brow lift performed?

Dr. Ching performs endoscopic brow lift surgery as an outpatient procedure in his on-site surgical center. The procedure takes about 1½ hours to perform. Depending on the patient’s needs, he may combine the brow lift with upper eyelid surgery, which increases surgical time.

Dr. Ching begins by making 5 incisions well within the hairline: 1 incision in the midline, 2 on either side of the midline, and 2 incisions in the temple regions. He inserts a thin, fiber-optic camera and specialized instruments through the incisions to lift the position of the brows. He also removes the corrugator muscles during this procedure to prevent frown lines.

What can I expect during recovery after a brow lift?

After a brow lift, patients usually have swelling and bruising in the forehead and upper eye areas, which may be minimized by keeping the head elevated for the first 24 hours after surgery. Sleeping in a recliner or propped up with pillows can help. Stitches are removed after about 1 week, and swelling and bruising normally subside after 2 weeks. Most patients are ready to return to work within 1 to 2 weeks but will need to postpone strenuous exercise, heaving lifting, and bending forward for about a month.
