Face lifts can be performed on both men and women as soon as there are signs of aging. Ideally, a facelift is performed earlier in life, in the mid-forties to fifties. The results will last throughout a patient's lifetime, although one does continue to age after the procedure.
After considering many different techniques, Dr. Ching believes the best results are from a high SMAS facelfit. In this type of facelift, the deeper structures of the face are lifted vertically. This technique addresses the area of the face called the midface, which is often the most difficult area to rejuvenate. Additional directions of lift are used for the muscles of the neck and the skin of the face and neck to provide the most natural results. Utilizing this approach takes more time and skill, but the results are much better than other techniques. While other surgeons may perfom facelift that only tighten the skin, these results can often appear unnatural, leave visible scars and last only a short time. Mini lifts can also be performed, but the results of mini lifts are not as dramatic as those with a full facelift.
Generally a facelift is performed with other procedures: forehead lifts, eyelid lifts, neck liposuction, lip lifts and fat grafting. Fat grafting has been recently shown to be important in rejuvenating the face as fat is lost from the face as we age.
