Asian/Double Eyelid Surgery (Asian Blepharoplasty) in Hawaii
Approximately half of the Asian population does not have a fold
in the upper eyelid. The creation of an eyelid fold, also know
as "double eyelid surgery" can brighten the eyes and make a person
appear more attractive. When considering this surgery, the patient
and the surgeon must understand that the goal of surgery is not
to westernize an Asian eye, but to create a natural crease that
looks Asian.
The Asian eyelid typically starts
at the crease very close to the eyelashes and then, as it gets
further away from the nose, the crease gets larger until the midpoint
of the pupil. At this point the fold runs parallel to the eyelid
margin. A Caucasian lid crease is slightly different in both shape
and size. Caucasian lids typically taper closer to the eyelashes
as the fold goes out laterally. It is more of an upside-down "U"
shape rather than a parallel shape to the lid lash. When placing
a crease, a configuration needs to correspond with that found
naturally in Asians or, otherwise the eyelid does not look normal.
