Breast Implant Incision Methods
Breast Implant Incision Types
A breast implant
or breast augmentation procedure has a variety of options for
how
the surgery is done. There isn't one ‘best’ incision choice for
all breast implants. While different methods have unique advantages
and disadvantages, your body make-up as well as other factors
must be taken into consideration to achieve the best results.
Dr. Ching believes that the location of the incision,
as well as many other factors, should be individualized to the
patient so that you receive the best surgery for you.
A good plastic surgeon,
in Hawaii or anywhere else, will guide you to the best procedure
specifically for you and your body. One incision method is not
best for all breast implant recipients. Dr. Ching has years of
experience as well as knowledge of the most current implant techniques.
Because of this, he’s able to offer his Hawaii patients, like
you, different incision options to fit your case:
Patient After Transaxillary Breast Implant Incision
Transaxillary
Breast Incision:
The implantation is done through a small
incision in the armpit, which usually heals as an invisible scar.
There are no visible scars on the breast. Dr. Ching always
performs transaxillary breast augmentation with endoscopic instruments.
This is a highly specialized
method of surgery that uses a special camera and small instruments
to look directly into the surgical area where the breast implants
are placed. Any bleeding during surgery is carefully controlled
with these instruments.
Often, transaxillary
breast augmentation is done without endoscopic instruments by
other surgeons, which results in more bleeding, increased pain
and a higher likelihood of asymmetry.
Your Best Breast Implant Results
Dr. Ching believes
surgery should always be done with the surgeon seeing exactly
what he's doing and an endoscopic approach to breast augmentation
allows for this. Endoscopic, transaxillary breast augmentation
is one of the most advanced methods for breast augmentation available
today and Dr. Ching is one of the few surgeons that has perfected
this technique - in Hawaii or elsewhere.
Parieolar Breast Implant Incision
Periareolar Breast Implant Incision:
This is done by making the incision
just beside the areola. The areola is the ring of pigmented skin
around the nipple. One advantage this offers is the scar is less
visible than when breast implantation is done using the Inframammary
method. This is especially true for women with lighter pigment
shading of the areola. Plastic surgeons usually prefer this method
when the procedure is intended to adjust existing Inframammary
breast implants or for a breast lift.
Inframammary
(IMF): This incision method is done just below the breast,
slightly above where the breat meets the chest. This is often
the most suitable technique for silicone implants as these implants
are already filled and require an incision large enough to allow
for placement of the implant. The scar can heal thicker under
this method, but it is often covered by the draping of the breast.
Umbilical: This incision uses an incision
inside the belly button to place breast implants. It is very difficult to place implants underneath the pectoral
muscle using this approach. In addition, there is no control of bleeding during surgery. The surgeon cannot see
within the chest with this approach. Due to these problems, Dr. Ching does not perform trans-umbilical breast
augmentation.
Perithelial Breast Implant Incision
Perithelial
Breast Incision:
In suitable patients, an incision can
be placed within the areola, just beside the nipple. The resulting
scar can be very minimal.
