Breast Lift & Breast Augmentation | Honolulu Hawaii
Why Both Surgeries Are Suggested for Some Patients
Breast lift and breast augmentation procedures are sometimes confused by those unfamiliar with
cosmetic surgery. Although they focus on the same area of a woman’s body, they address different issues. Knowing the differences will help
you understand when they are performed.
The breast lift is specifically intended to do just that, lift the breasts. Over time, breasts will sag
due to age, the effects of pregnancy or other factors. The procedure actually changes your breasts’ shape and form as well as raising the position of your
breasts.
This operation is also used on patients who have nipples that point downward or are positioned very low
on the breast. In short, a breast lift is intended to fix the sagging or drooping of breasts. If larger breasts are desired, breast implants can be
inserted at the same time.
In contrast, a breast augmentation with implants only enlarges the breasts. This makes it a very
popular procedure, but it can’t accomplish the true lift that is sometimes needed. However, if the amount of drooping is minimal, an implant alone can
lift the breasts. But in most cases, a combination of a breast lift with breast implants is needed.
Breast Lift & Breast Augmentation - Conditions That Call For Both Procedures
Women who have had multiple pregnancies are sometimes candidates for this dual procedure. This is due
to the upheaval their bodies experience from the weight gain they have while pregnant, followed by the sudden drop in weight after giving birth. Some
mothers can lose breast tissue during this time as well. The sudden enlargement of the breasts, followed by rapid shrinkage after pregnancy and breast
feeding are over causes loose skin and breast droop.
Other candidates for both procedures are women who go through severe weight loss due to diet or
surgery.
Whatever the cause, the loss of breast tissue and the shrinkage of the breasts due to losing weight
results in both drooping and a drop in size. Usually, these two issues cannot be addressed by either a breast augmentation or a breast lift alone.
