Liposuction Myths You Should Know The Truth About
Liposuction Surgery In Honolulu, Hawaii
Like any rumor or generally accepted "fact," liposuction myths are difficult to extinguish and can actually cause harm because they give patients incorrect information. Liposuction is a surgical procedure and it's essential to your health to have the most current, accurate information available.
We’ve addressed a few of the most widespread myths about liposuction here and encourage you to ask Dr. Ching any questions you have during your consultation. For now, here is the truth about some liposuction misconceptions:
Myth: Liposuction is an alternative to
diet and/or exercise
This is probably the most widespread belief and the one that causes the most disappointment in those considering liposuction. The truth is that liposuction should be part of a program that includes a beneficial diet and exercise, especially after the procedure.
Liposuction is also not intended for the fat that can be eliminated through a diet and exercise regimen alone; it is intended for your "problem areas" that are resistant to conventional diet and exercise efforts.
Liposuction should not be your first and only option for fat reduction. It’s a surgical procedure, which should never be undergone before valid and effective non-surgical solutions are considered.
Myth: You will not gain
weight after undergoing liposuction
You can gain weight afterward but, probably not in the areas treated. The non-treated areas will still have the same amount of fat cells present so they can continue to put on weight as normal.
This fact underlines the importance that you maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen that will help prevent future weight gain. Remember, liposuction treats specific areas
of your figure, not your entire body.
Myth: You’ll lose weight
immediately after your liposuction
It’s important to realize this
isn’t true at all as it will keep your expectations realistic
during the weeks afterward. In reality you can weigh the same
as, or even more than, you did previously during the initial days
and weeks following liposuction. Why?
There are 2 reasons for this:
Reason #1: Fluid retention. This
first factor can take days and sometimes weeks before it declines.
You will see this go down, but it will take some time.
Reason #2: Your body needs time to adapt to the changes caused by liposuction. This process is also gradual, meaning that you’ll see the cosmetic benefits
grow over time. It can be 4 to 6 months before you see the full benefits and results.
Again, diet and exercise can play a role here. They can accelerate the body’s adjustment and recovery, bringing the full gains of your liposuction to
fruition in less time. One more reason why you should implement and follow a plan.
