The goal of Asian rhinoplasty is not to create a Caucasian nose, but to create a nose that enhances the
beauty of the Asian face. While the goal of Caucasian nose surgery is usually to make the nose smaller, Asian rhinoplasty typically involves
making the nose larger with the use of silicone implants and cartilage grafts.
To raise the bridge of the nose, the material we typically use is silicone. Silicone plastic bridges have been used for over fifty years and have proven to be very safe for Asian nose surgery. Reshaping of the tip of the nose requires cartilage grafts which are harvested from the ear. Removal of specific portions of the cartilage of the ear leads to no visible changes in ear appearance.
The shape of the nose tip is determined by the underlying cartilage framework of the nasal tip. Cartilage grafts are used in the nasal tip to provide greater definition and projection of the tip of the nose.
